The aircraft manufacturer Airbus has projected that the Asia-Pacific aviation sector will require 19,500 new aircraft by 2043, accounting for 46% of the total global demand, which is estimated to reach 42,430 units. Anand Stanley, President of Airbus Asia-Pacific, elaborated that the forecast for the Asia-Pacific region, including China and India, indicates a growth in the need for new aircraft at a rate of 3% per year. This increasing demand will lead to a continuous expansion of the fleet in the region, driven by the necessity for fleet expansion and the replacement of older aircraft, alongside the rising emphasis on sustainable initiatives. "Airbus anticipates that approximately 16,000 single-aisle aircraft, such as the A220 and A320neo families, will be required to support short to medium-haul routes in this area," stated Anand Stanley in an official announcement on Monday, November 17, 2024. Furthermore, he noted that the demand for medium and large long-haul aircraft, such as the A330neo and A350, is projected to reach around 3,500 units. Recent wide-body aircraft orders in the region include those from Cathay Pacific (A330neo), EVA Air, Japan Airlines, and Korean Air (A350). Airbus estimates that nearly 71% of all new aircraft deliveries will be allocated for fleet expansion, while the remaining 29% will be for replacing older aircraft, which will significantly impact decarbonization efforts. Anand asserted that Airbus's latest generation of wide-body aircraft is up to 25% more fuel-efficient, resulting in lower carbon emissions. In the cargo segment, the Asia-Pacific region is projected to require approximately 250 new wide-body cargo aircraft, which accounts for 10% of the total global cargo demand. The A350F, based on the proven A350 platform, is designed to address this need with high efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions, and superior economic performance. Anand also noted that the A350F has met the latest ICAO emission standards, establishing it as a leader in the large cargo aircraft market. The order from STARLUX Airlines for five units of the A350F earlier this year serves as a testament to market confidence in this model.
