The best low-cost airline according to Skytrax, Indonesia AirAsia (IAA/QZ), has expressed its support for the government's initiative to reduce domestic flight ticket prices during the Christmas and New Year period (Nataru) for 2024/2025, specifically from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025. The airline plans to implement a price reduction of up to 10 percent on flight tickets. "Indonesia AirAsia fully supports the government's directive to create more affordable air transportation, particularly during significant occasions such as the Christmas and New Year holidays. With the measures we have put in place, we are optimistic about assisting the public in accessing more affordable flight services while also contributing to increased mobility and the growth of the domestic tourism sector," stated Veranita Yosephine, the CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, in a press release on Monday, December 2, 2024. Veranita noted that this initiative aligns with the guidance of President Prabowo Subianto, aimed at alleviating the travel cost burden on the public while also supporting the recovery of the tourism and creative economy sectors in Indonesia. This initiative is expected to help lower air travel costs, in line with the government's projection of a target reduction of approximately 10 percent in flight ticket prices. The reduction encompasses several components of ticket costs, including fuel surcharge, Passenger Service Charge (PJP2U), landing fees, and other supporting elements. Indonesia AirAsia remains committed to ensuring the implementation of this ticket price reduction policy without compromising service quality, with a focus on flight safety and passenger comfort. Previously, the government sought to lower flight costs by reducing airport service fees by 50 percent, providing a 5.3 percent discount on Pertamina's aviation fuel, and decreasing the fuel surcharge for jet engines by 8 percent. This initiative is expected to reduce ticket prices by up to 9.9 percent, equivalent to IDR 157,000 per ticket for the Surabaya - Jakarta route. Additionally, this policy is anticipated to save IDR 472 billion during the Nataru holiday period from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025
