Nissan's 2030 Ambition Includes The Launch Of 19 Electric Vehicles, With Models Specifically Designed For Indonesia

Tuesday, 10 Dec 2024

Nissan Ambition 2030 is a strategic plan outlining Nissan's vision for the future. A key aspect of this initiative is the introduction of 19 new electric vehicle models, aimed at competing with automotive manufacturers from China. However, detailed information regarding the specific electric vehicle models that Nissan plans to release by 2030 has yet to be disclosed. This initiative underscores Nissan's ambition to maintain its competitiveness in the electric vehicle market, especially considering that the Leaf has been a pioneer among Japanese electric cars. Among the 19 planned electric vehicles, several models are intended for the Indonesian market. This was confirmed by Asako Hoshino, Chief Brand and Customer Officer and MC-Japan-ASEAN Chairman of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

"Certainly, the competition from Chinese brands entering the Southeast Asian market is quite intense. Therefore, we have decided to develop highly competitive electric vehicles," Hoshino stated recently in Jakarta.

In the development of new electric vehicles, Nissan intends to draw lessons from the production process of the Leaf. Hoshino emphasized the importance of accelerating the development timeline to ensure that the products remain competitive.

"We are trying to shorten that period, aiming to create electric vehicles that will also be exported to Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and others," Hoshino added. Currently, Nissan offers several electric vehicle models, including the Leaf, Ariya, and Sakura. However, in Indonesia, only the Leaf is available. Meanwhile, the Ariya is marketed in the United States and Europe, while the Sakura is exclusively sold in Japan.
