Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, has proposed that low-cost carrier (LCC) flights at Soekarno-Hatta Airport be consolidated into a single terminal to alleviate passenger congestion. He stated that efforts are currently underway to manage and reduce the density of passengers at Soetta Airport. One of the proposed solutions involves relocating LCC flights to a designated terminal. "In the future, LCC operations will be in a different terminal. We have been in discussions with the Minister of Transportation, who supports this initiative," Erick remarked during his visit to Terminal 2F in Tangerang on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. He further explained that all low-cost carrier flights will eventually be redirected to Terminal 1. In addition to consolidating LCC flights, Erick mentioned that utilizing Terminal 2F for Umrah and Hajj services could also help ease congestion at Soetta, particularly in Terminal 3. He indicated that this reorganization could significantly reduce government expenditure, lowering the initial budget for the construction of Terminal 4 from IDR 14 trillion to just IDR 1 trillion for Terminal 2F. "Full-service airlines will operate from Terminal 3, while Terminal 2F will be dedicated to Hajj and Umrah, and LCCs will be accommodated in Terminal 1. We are currently revitalizing and enhancing Terminal 1, which will be markedly different from its previous state," Erick stated. He noted that the revitalization progress has reached 30%, with a target completion date set for August. Currently, Erick reported that the average passenger traffic at Soetta Airport is approximately 150,000 per day, while Umrah passenger traffic stands at around 10,000 daily, with an equal number of arrivals and departures.
