Wednesday, 08 Jan 2025

The inaugural flight of Scoot Airlines from Changi Airport in Singapore successfully landed at Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) in West Sumatra, carrying 89 passengers out of the 112 available seats. Iman Sinambela, the President Director of PT JAS Aero Engineering Services, stated that the aircraft utilized for this new Singapore-Padang route is the Embraer E190-E2, which has a passenger capacity of 112. "On this inaugural flight, there were 89 passengers who arrived at BIM. Although the seat occupancy was not full, the return flight from Padang to Singapore was fully booked with 112 passengers," he mentioned in an official statement on Monday, January 6, 2025. He expressed hope that the introduction of the Padang-Singapore route via Scoot would enhance tourist visits between the two regions and boost the local economy.

Iman further explained that starting from January 6, 2025, Scoot will operate the Singapore-Padang route twice a week, increasing to four times a week from January 10, 2025. "Scoot is a low-cost airline and a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA)," he added.

He detailed the flight schedule, with departures from Changi International Airport (SIN) at 12:00 local time, arriving at Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) at 12:25 local time. The return flight from Padang to Singapore is scheduled for 13:00 local time. Initially, this route will operate twice a week, but starting January 10, 2025, Scoot will increase its flights to Padang to four times a week, with an additional departure option from Changi International Airport at 16:55 local time, arriving at BIM at 17:20 local time. The return flight from Padang to Singapore is set for 17:55 local time. This route will be serviced by the Embraer E190-E2 aircraft.

The Embraer E190-E2 is the latest generation aircraft that offers significant advantages in terms of fuel efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and lower noise levels, as stated by the spokesperson. He emphasized that with advanced technology and environmentally friendly features, this aircraft not only enhances passenger comfort during flights but also contributes to environmental sustainability. Iman noted that the introduction of this aircraft in Indonesia marks a crucial step towards a more sustainable future in the aviation sector. "We are pleased to welcome and support Scoot's inaugural flight in Padang," he asserted. Concurrently, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi expressed that the opening of this route will facilitate access for the community, whether they wish to visit Singapore or West Sumatra. "I hope various parties, including local governments and organizations such as ASITA and PHRI, will take advantage of this opportunity," he stated.

Mahyeldi pointed out that the Padang-Singapore route is not a new one, as it was previously served by airlines like Mandala and Air Asia a few years ago. In addition to the existing Padang-Singapore route, he also urged Scoot Airlines management to consider launching a Padang-Australia route. "According to our data, the number of tourists from Australia to Padang is quite substantial, even ranking just after Malaysian tourists. Therefore, I see potential for direct flights from Australia to Padang," the governor remarked. Furthermore, Luhur Budianda, Head of the West Sumatra Tourism Office, added that the new international flight route at BIM is expected to positively impact tourist visits to West Sumatra. "Throughout 2024, we anticipate the number of visitors to reach 17.2 million, exceeding our target of 13.5 million."
