Fly Jaya, A New Airline, Is Poised To Take To The Skies Of Indonesia

Friday, 24 Jan 2025

The arrival of BBN Airlines marks a significant development in the Indonesian aviation sector, as it welcomes a new competitor, Fly Jaya, operated by PT Surya Mataram Nusantara.

This airline aims to commence its flight services in mid-2025, primarily focusing on serving remote areas that have been underserved by other commercial airlines. According to information from Fly Jaya's official website, the initial routes to be launched include Jakarta-Bandung, Jakarta-Balikpapan, Jakarta-Yogyakarta, and vice versa.

Fly Jaya has received standard approval from the Ministry of Transportation in December 2024; however, it still needs to secure an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to operate fully.

In response to the emergence of this new airline, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that he has not yet received an operational permit application from Fly Jaya.

"Coincidentally, I have not seen it on my desk; I will check with my staff to see if there is an application," he remarked during an event at the state-owned enterprises office on Tuesday, January 21.

ertheless, Dudy expressed a positive outlook regarding the new airline's intention to serve the public. A similar sentiment was echoed by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, who noted that Indonesia's demand for aircraft stands at 750 units, while only 410 units are currently available.

"Anyone who invests in increasing the number of aircraft should certainly be welcomed," Erick stated.

He also emphasized that state-owned airlines such as Pelita Air, Garuda Indonesia, and Citilink will continue to enhance their performance, particularly in anticipation of a surge in passengers leading up to Eid al-Fitr in 2025.

Erick is optimistic about the vast potential of the domestic aviation market in Indonesia, which he believes is comparable to that of the United States and China. "The key is how we can increase the number of aircraft in the future," he concluded.

With the introduction of Fly Jaya, it is hoped that competition within the domestic aviation industry will become healthier, thereby improving accessibility and services for communities across Indonesia.
