Domestic violence remains an enduring issue that continues to resonate within society. This pressing concern has inspired the production company Travel Stories Pictures (TSF) to create the film "Samawa." "Samawa" tells the story of Yura (Badriyah Afiff), a woman raised in a strong Javanese cultural environment. After marrying Andi (Alexzander Wlan), she confronts a harsh reality. This bitter truth regarding domestic violence ultimately serves as the catalyst for the disintegration of Yura and Andi's marriage. Badriyah Afiff shared her experience of how she came to accept this project. Typically offered horror films, she was surprised to find that this script did not align with that genre. "I usually agree to horror film offers, but when I read the script, I realized there was no horror in it," she remarked during an interview at Senayan City, Central Jakarta, on Friday, January 31, 2025. According to Badriyah Afiff, the horror element lies within the context of domestic violence, which she finds to be more terrifying than traditional horror. "Domestic violence is indeed scarier, to be honest," stated the actress from Bandung. To fully immerse herself in a role that she describes as more frightening than horror films, Badriyah Afiff acknowledged facing challenges. Out of five film projects, most have been in the horror genre, making her role in "Samawa," which features a dramatic character, a significant departure. "It was quite challenging because I had never played a character like Yura, who is purely dramatic," she explained. So, what is the complete story of "Samawa"? Please be patient, as the film is set to premiere on February 27, 2025.
