The governments of Indonesia and Turkey are planning to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector. One of the initiatives includes increasing the number of flights from Indonesia to Turkey. Anindya Bakrie, the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), stated that discussions regarding the increase in flights have already taken place. This move is a response to the significant number of flights operated by Turkish Airlines to Indonesia. "Earlier, during discussions between Turkish and Indonesian businesspeople, we talked about Turkish Airlines increasing their flights here. Additionally, there is potential collaboration so that after performing Umrah, Indonesians can travel directly to Turkey," Anindya remarked following the Indonesia-Turkey CEO Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, February 12, 2025. "Yes, the plan to add flights has been discussed to facilitate greater connectivity," he added. Anindya emphasized that Indonesia should learn from Turkey regarding tourism, noting that approximately 65 million tourists visit Turkey annually. "That is a substantial number, so we must learn from their experience," he stated. Meanwhile, Turkish Minister of Trade, Omer Bolat, indicated that the number of Turkish tourists visiting Indonesia has been increasing each year. In 2024, around 50,000 Turkish tourists are expected to visit Indonesia. "We are confident that there will be even more tourists from both countries visiting each other," Omer said during his speech at the Indonesia-Turkey CEO Forum. He also expressed hope for an increase in the number of flights between the two nations. Omer Bolat's visit to Jakarta coincided with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's trip. According to Omer, President Erdogan and President Prabowo have set a target to elevate trade between the two countries to 10 billion USD annually. "Today, our leaders have established an annual trade target of 10 billion USD between our nations," Omer concluded.
