Indonesia is committed to a multiple pathways approach to reducing emissions, which includes promoting electrification vehicles (xEV) including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) as well as Fuel-Cell, developing flexible-fuel vehicles that adaptively use biofuels or gas, and increasing fuel efficiency. On that occasion, R. HendroMartono, as Acting Director of Maritime Industry, Transportation Equipment, and Defense Equipment (IMATAP), explained the review of the Indonesian automotive industry as well as the strategy and policy for the development of Electric Vehicles (EV) in Indonesia, including the development roadmap of EV, the EV ecosystem, and investment for new EV industry in Indonesia. Meanwhile, during the event, Director General of the Ministry of Trade Policy Secretariat (Manufacturing Industry Bureau), METI Japan, Mr. Tanaka Kazushige, mentioned that there is currently cooperation between Japan and ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, in reducing emissions and strengthening automotive exports. "The key to this is the presence of co-creation," he said. Tanaka also stated that achieving emission reductions requires multi-pathways, including through the use of bio-fuel. "Bio-fuel is also a major concern for Japan, and some companies in Japan also have this technology," he explained. Furthermore, Director of International Automotive Trade Policy at METI, Mr. Kikuchi Takanori, proposed a direction for collaboration in the automotive industry between Indonesia and Japan based on the "Next Generation ASEAN-Japan Automotive Industry Collaboration Initiative" agreed upon at the Commemorative Summit of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation on December 17, 2023. Also present at the event were representatives from Japanese automotive manufacturing associations. Representing the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) were Mr. Ueda Hajime and Mr. Takako Kubo, who provided information on Japan's automotive industry initiative in Indonesia towards carbon neutrality. Additionally, Mr. KakiharaTomoaki explained the project collaboration report on biodiesel fuel between Indonesia and Japan. Meanwhile, Ms. Kumano Ryo, as a representative from Deloitte Japan, presented a Feasibility Study Report on the Utilization of Bioethanol Fuel in Indonesia.
