Senior Indonesian actor Ray Sahetapy has passed away at the age of 68. He passed away on Tuesday (1/4) at RSPAD Gatot Subroto, Jakarta. Ray was previously known to have suffered a stroke in 2023 and was undergoing recovery. The man whose full name is Ferenc Raymond Sahetapy was born in Donggala, Central Sulawesi on January 1, 1957. He has also starred in a number of films. He started his career in the film industry by playing Jaka in the film "Gadis" in 1980. In the international film industry, Ray also had the opportunity to play a role in the production of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Captain America: Civil War in 2016. The director considered the scene played by Ray Sahetapy to be prominent in the film, even the director Joe Russo considered Ray so total that he hoped to invite him back for the next Marvel project. Ray is also known as the actor with the most nominations at the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) with seven nominations and six of them were nominated in the best actor category. The films that were able to bring him into the FFI nomination were the films "Ponirah" Terpidana at the 1984 FFI, "Secangkir Kopi Pahit" at the 1985 FFI, "Kerikil-kerikil Tajam" at the 1985 FFI, "Opera Jakarta" at the 1986 FFI, "Tatkala Mimpi Berakhir" at the 1988 FFI, and "Jangan bilang Siapa- Siapa" at the 1990 FFI. He is also known to have founded a theater studio, formed an arts community and was once elected as the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Film Artists Association (Parfi) 56. Often playing characters with totality, depth and complexity, Ray once spent his childhood in an orphanage in Surabaya. As for his marriage to his first wife, senior actress Dewi Yull, the two married after starring in the film "Gadis" and were married in 1981. It is known that the marriage was not approved by Dewi's parents because of religious differences, Ray at that time embraced Christianity and then converted to Islam in 1992.
