Airlangga Encourages Russia To Establish Jakarta-Moscow Flight Route

Thursday, 17 Apr 2025

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has advocated for collaboration between Indonesia and Russia, particularly by establishing flight routes from Moscow to various destinations in Indonesia.

Airlangga noted that direct flights between Moscow and Jakarta, as well as the reverse, would enhance business cooperation between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and its Russian counterparts.

“To facilitate business between Kadin and its partners, one crucial aspect is the direct flight from Moscow to Jakarta,” Airlangga stated to reporters during the Russia-Indonesia Business Forum on Monday, April 14, 2025.

The former Chairman of the Golkar Party revealed that he has already discussed this plan with First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov. Both parties will further elaborate on the proposal.

Airlangga expressed his intention to encourage Manturov to visit Jakarta, emphasizing that the goal of both nations is to foster business relations between Indonesia and Russia. “Thus, the natural bridge is Jakarta-Moscow,” he remarked.

However, Airlangga could not confirm the exact timeline for the opening of the Moscow-Jakarta flight route. He assured that the route would be established as soon as possible. “As soon as possible,” he concluded. Additionally, during a panel discussion, Airlangga mentioned that Indonesia aims to attract more tourists from Russia through direct flights from Moscow to Bali and other Indonesian cities. He pointed out that Indonesia has five other major tourist destinations that could be developed through air transport. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the total number of international tourist visits from Russia in 2024 reached 180,215, marking an 11.7% increase from the previous year's 161,323 visits. Notably, Russia officially launched the Moscow flight route in October 2018.
