The Ministry of Industry appreciates the collaboration between body builders and bus industry players in Indonesia. This will strengthen competitiveness and continue to drive added value improvement domestically. "Indonesian body builders' creativity and design are among the best in the world, even globally recognized with very competitive costs. Indonesian body-built buses have also been accepted in several export destination countries," said Acting Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) Putu Juli Ardika in his statement in Jakarta on Sunday (7/21). Yesterday, Saturday (7/20), Putu visited the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 and also attended the handover of Tentrem body-built units to several Bus Companies (PO) in Indonesia Conventional Exhibition (ICE) BSD, South Tangerang. During the event, the handover of buses body-built by Tentrem (PT Tentrem Sejahtera) using Volvo chassis (PT Indotruck Utama), Mercedes Benz (PT Daimler Commercial Vehicle Indonesia), Hino (PT Hino Motor Sales Indonesia), Scania (PT United Tractor), and Wintrone (PT. Wintrone Orionis Indonesia), to MTrans Bus Company (PT Kacebe Murni Transport), Sinar Jaya (PT Sinar Jaya Megah), Borlindo (PT Borlindo Mandiri Jaya), Primajasa (PT Primajasa Perdanaraya Utama), and Bagong Transport (PT Bagong Dekaka Makmur). At the same time, national bus retail sales also grew by 59 percent (YoY) to 5,369 units. "We see a bright prospect for the bus industry in 2024, which is promising for bus industry players in Indonesia," said Putu. During the GIIAS 2024 event, the Acting Director General of ILMATE also took the time to review the Orionis 8NV electric bus that will be operated by one of the bus companies. "We are presenting the Orionis 8NV unit, a medium-sized electric bus, designed and assembled by young Indonesian engineers who are part of our engineering team, of course in our product design," said Ian Wira Laksmana, CEO of PT. Wintrone Orionis Indonesia. In addition to paying attention to the function and performance in an effort to meet consumer needs, the company also focuses on all regulations applicable in Indonesia. "The goal is for the products we produce to comply with the laws and regulations in Indonesia," said Ian. So far, the Ministry of Industry has been consistent in pushing for the growth of the automotive industry sector in Indonesia, including in terms of increasing the market and sales of cars domestically. Moreover, the automotive industry is one of the sectors that receives priority for development because it can significantly contribute to the national economy. "The transportation equipment industry was the main driver of industrial GDP growth in 2023 with a growth rate of 7.63 percent, higher than the overall industrial sector growth. The growth of the transportation equipment industry is inseparable from the contribution of the automotive sector," explained Putu.
