Minister of Transportation Budi KaryaSumadi stated that the Ministry of Transportation fully supports the provision of electric vehicles in the Nusantara Capital Region (IKN). This was conveyed by the Minister during a working visit to IKN, East Kalimantan, on Monday (3/6).

"The Ministry prioritizes the provision of low-emission transportation, in this case electric vehicles in the IKN area. This is important to maintain air quality in the IKN region," said the Minister.

The Minister explained that in order to achieve zero emissions in the IKN area, the Ministry of Transportation has prepared several effective strategies, such as providing intermodal transportation services in the buffer areas of IKN. The intermodal transportation service network from the buffer cities of IKN to the IKN Core Government Center (KIPP) that are already operational and will be operational, include: Balikpapan - IKN intermodal transportation (Rest Area) and Samarinda - IKN intermodal transportation (Park n Ride 2).

It should be noted that the Balikpapan - IKN intermodal transportation service via SimpangSamboja has been operational since November 1, 2022. After the operation of the IKN toll road, the Balikpapan - IKN intermodal transportation service will switch to using the toll road, as well as the Samarinda - IKN intermodal transportation service.

"After the toll road is operational, the final point of service for non-electric buses is Park and Ride 2 as a transit point, then passengers will switch to urban transportation in IKN using Electric Vehicles," explained the Minister.

Furthermore, regarding electric bus services, the Ministry of Transportation has conducted a technical planning study for public transportation in KIPP phase 1 by proposing 3 route trajectories. These three routes are the Park & Ride route to the Grand Mosque with a total of 13 medium buses needed; the Park & Ride route to the Botanical Garden with a total of 7 medium buses needed; and the Park & Ride 1 to Park & Ride 2 route with a total of 21 fleet needed.

Meanwhile, the Capital City Authority of Nusantara (OIKN) is also planning to collaborate with Bluebird to serve routes within IKN or KIPP phase 1, specifically regarding the procurement of electric buses and its operational plan. Furthermore, the budget for Buy the Service (BTS) has been proposed for 2025 to serve IKN routes. As for the route plan, it will be adjusted according to the developed land plots, while the number of required vehicles is still pending evaluation and review by the OIKN team.
