Isuzu Has Issued A Recall For Approximately 37,000 D-Maxes In Australia

Monday, 12 Aug 2024

Isuzu Ute Australia has initiated a recall of 36,966 units of the Isuzu D-Max from the 2020 to 2023 model years due to concerns regarding potential damage to the fuel hose. The vehicles in question, although produced between 2020 and 2023, may have been sold at a later date, as reported by Drive on Saturday (10/8) local time. The recall notice states, "The fuel delivery hose may have been improperly installed, leading to contact with the engine oil level gauge bracket, which could cause premature wear. This may result in fuel leakage from the compromised hose, posing a fire risk if an external ignition source is present."

The notification submitted to the Department of Infrastructure indicated that a vehicle fire poses an increased risk of injury or fatality to occupants, other road users, pedestrians, and may also result in property damage. In November 2023, a recall was initiated with the Department of Infrastructure concerning 8,039 units of the 2020-2023 D-Max due to the same potential issue, while the most recent recall pertains to 36,966 vehicles deemed "less likely to have the problem."

A representative from Mazda Australia informed Drive that 10,957 units of the Mazda BT-50, which is based on the Isuzu D-Max, manufactured between July 31, 2020, and November 6, 2021, are also locally impacted by this issue. Additionally, 11,613 vehicles produced between November 1, 2021, and February 8, 2023, are affected. Isuzu Ute Australia will reach out to the owners of the affected vehicles in writing, requesting them to schedule an appointment with their nearest dealership for a complimentary inspection and replacement of the fuel hose.
