The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud) of the Ministry of Transportation will conduct Ramp Inspections and establish a command post to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of air travel services in anticipation of the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holiday season. Acting Director General of Hubud, Lukman F. Laisa, stated that the Ramp Inspections will take place from December 17, 2024, to January 4, 2025. During this period, inspections of aircraft operations will be carried out in accordance with applicable implementation guidelines, in coordination with the Airport Authority Office or the local Airport Unit Office. "Ramp inspections will be conducted by inspectors from the respective technical directorates to ensure smooth operations and enhance compliance with safety and security aspects of air transport during the holiday preparation period," Lukman noted in a written statement on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Furthermore, Lukman indicated that the ministry will monitor 56 airports for domestic flights covering 266 routes, as well as 17 airports for international flights with 129 routes throughout the holiday season. The Ministry of Transportation anticipates that the number of air passengers during this holiday season will reach 3,912,224, comprising 3,048,148 domestic passengers and 864,076 international passengers. This figure represents a 4% increase compared to the previous year's holiday season. "For monitoring purposes, we will establish a Nataru Command Post from December 19, 2024, to January 3, 2025. The projected number of passengers for the 2024/2025 holiday season is approaching the levels seen in 2019, with a recovery rate of 79% for domestic flights and 94% for international flights," he explained.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has projected that the peak of the homecoming flow will occur in two waves. The first wave is anticipated to begin on December 21, 2024, coinciding with the Christmas period, with an estimated total of 297,129 passengers. This figure includes 240,413 domestic passengers and 56,716 international passengers. The second wave is expected on December 28, 2024, during the New Year period, with projections reaching 260,196 passengers. This includes 202,873 domestic passengers and 57,323 international passengers.

Furthermore, the peak return flow is estimated for January 3, 2025, for the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 period, with a total of 259,816 passengers. This comprises 202,820 domestic passengers and 56,996 international passengers. To ensure adequate air transport capacity for the 2024 holiday season, Lukman stated that a total of 417 aircraft units have been allocated through regular capacity.

In addition to establishing a holiday air transport post, Lukman emphasized the importance of all parties involved in maintaining and enhancing safety and security measures in aviation, as well as health protocols. For instance, a Contingency Plan has been prepared to address potential accidents and natural disasters in accordance with the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) and the Airport Disaster Preparedness Manual. "I also urge all airport operators and air transport service providers to enhance air transport capacity, accommodate growing demand by adjusting Slot Times, extending Airport Operating Hours, and managing irregular slots," he concluded.
