President Director of Lion Air Group, Daniel Putut Adi Kuncoro, announced that the Indonesian government has entrusted Lion Air Group to participate in the transportation of hajj pilgrims for the year 2025. This statement was made by Daniel during a meeting involving Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the Directors of PT Garuda, Lion Air, Citilink, and Saudi Airlines at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday evening, January 2, 2025. "Regarding our preparations, Lion Air is ready to serve the regular hajj in 2025. We express our gratitude to God Almighty and to the government for placing their trust in us for this year's hajj season," Daniel stated on Thursday. He elaborated that Lion Air Group has been serving Indonesian umrah pilgrims since 2009. Since then, Lion Air Group has acquired two wide-body aircraft, specifically the Boeing 747-400. "In 2009, we began serving Indonesian umrah pilgrims," Daniel noted. Two years later, in 2011, Lion Air Group was entrusted by the Saudi airline Flynas to lease several aircraft. The planes leased by Flynas from Lion Air Group subsequently assisted in the transportation of hajj pilgrims. "This service has extended to countries in Africa, Europe, Central Asia, and Asia, including Indonesia. Thus, for nearly 13 years, we have been providing flights for umrah pilgrims," Daniel added. "May 2025 be a prosperous and grateful year for all of us, especially for Lion Air, as we have the opportunity to serve hajj pilgrims in 2025," he expressed. Previously reported, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Romo HR Muhammad Syafi’i, opened the possibility of collaborating with airlines other than Garuda Indonesia for the organization of the hajj in 2025. He indicated that the Ministry of Religious Affairs would consider partnering with additional airlines to enhance the services provided to pilgrims, particularly in terms of their departure and return.
