Tuesday, 25 Mar 2025

The Australian route from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is getting more lively with the addition of airlines serving flights to Darwin. Previously, this route was only served by Jetstar Airways. Now, PT Indonesia Air Asia Tbk (CMPP) has opened a flight route to Darwin, Australia. The inaugural flight of the Bali-Darwin route by Indonesia Air Asia took place on Saturday (22/3/2025). The Bali-Darwin flight schedule by Indonesia Air Asia operates three times a week, namely Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

The inaugural flight ceremony was held at 11.49 WITA by releasing 155 passengers on flight number QZ540 to Darwin with a full capacity of 180 passengers. The event was attended by the Head of the Airport Authority Office Region IV, the Australian Consulate General in Bali, the CEO of Regional II PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the President Director of Indonesia Air Asia, and the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab.

"With this addition, we hope to make it easier for passengers because there are alternative airlines to Darwin," said Syaugi. This flight route to Australia is the route with the highest daily flight frequency. This is because the average flight reaches 60 times per day. The flight frequency departs from Australia and Bali to Australia per day.

In addition to the frequency aspect, the passenger occupancy rate for the Australian route or load factor is also recorded as quite good. The majority of routes have a performance of above 85% during the first two months of 2025. Even the Darwin route load factor reached above 90%. "This provides a positive picture indicating that the market share for flights to Australia and Darwin is very promising. Congratulations to Indonesia Air Asia. Hopefully this route can be consistent and provide the best benefits," said Syaugi.

Indonesia Air Asia noted that the flight route to Darwin is the third route operating at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Apart from Darwin, Perth and Cairns are regular routes that have been operating. President Director of Indonesia Air Asia, Veranita Yosephine, stated that Denpasar and Darwin have close historical and cultural ties and are favorite destinations for Australian tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of Bali, as well as Indonesians who want to explore Northern Australia.

"With the opening of this route, we hope to further increase the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali," said Veranita in her written statement. Currently, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport serves 9 direct flight routes to various cities in Australia, namely Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Gold Coast, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. CMPP's share price from the beginning of this year to March 21, 2025 (year to date) has increased by 1.16% or to Rp87.
