Sriwijaya Air Returns To Serving Flights To Berau, Strengthening East Kalimantan Air Connectivity

Thursday, 10 Apr 2025

Since it has not landed in Berau Regency for approximately 5 years, Sriwijaya Air Airlines has resumed serving flights in Berau Regency.

This was stated by the Head of BLU UPBU Class I Kalimarau, Ferdinan Nurdin. He explained that Sriwijaya Air will restart its operations in Berau through a new route that will be effective starting April 14, 2025. This route connects several important cities in eastern Indonesia, namely Makassar - Ternate - Makassar - Kalimarau - Balikpapan - Kalimarau - Makassar.

"This is a historic moment as well as a strategic step in supporting community mobility and regional economic growth," said Ferdinan.

He said that this route will be served by a Boeing 737-800NG jet aircraft, which is known for its large capacity, maximum comfort, and modern facilities. The flight schedule will be carried out three times a week. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

For detailed flight schedules as follows:

Makassar (UPG) – Kalimarau (BEJ): 08.55 WITA ? 10.35 WITA

Kalimarau (BEJ) – Balikpapan (BPN): 11.15 WITA ? 12.15 WITA

Balikpapan (BPN) – Kalimarau (BEJ): 12.55 WITA ? 13.55 WITA

Kalimarau (BEJ) – Makassar (UPG): 14.40 WITA ? 16.20 WITA

Ferdinan hopes that this new route will provide many strategic benefits. In addition to strengthening Berau's connection to economic centers such as Makassar and Balikpapan, the additional route to Ternate also opens up new opportunities for the business and tourism sectors.

Moreover, this flight is connected to various connecting routes to eastern and western Indonesia. Specifically for the Balikpapan – Kalimarau – Balikpapan route, the use of jet aircraft provides added value in the form of faster and more efficient travel.

Ferdinan added that this route not only strengthens community access to their hometowns or business destinations, but is also part of strategic support for the tourism sector in Berau and the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN).

This decision is also a form of response to the aspirations of the Berau community who have close ties with Sulawesi.

"The return of Sriwijaya Air is expected to further open access, encourage economic growth, and provide a positive contribution to the welfare of the Berau community and its surroundings," he concluded.
