Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi revealed the progress of the construction of the Indonesian Capital City Airport (IKN) in East Kalimantan. Dudy said that the physical construction of the IKN airport has been completed and is ready to operate. "Yesterday, the last test was carried out for the landing, take-off, landing. It just needs to be put into operation," he said in his statement, Saturday (12/4/2025). He said that the IKN airport has a runway of 3,000 meters with a width of 45 meters. Although it is ready to operate, he said that the airport has not been opened to serve commercial flights for the time being. "That's special. For the time being, it's special. Yesterday it was for non-commercial use," he said, as reported by Antara. When asked about when the IKN Airport would be inaugurated, the Minister of Transportation admitted that he did not know about it. "I don't know when the inauguration will be. Now we are just focusing on the completion," he said. Previously, the Minister of Transportation targeted the IKN Airport to be commercialized before 2028. According to him, this is in line with the target of the IKN which will start operating as the Political Capital in 2028. Thus, the function of this airport will also be adjusted to become a public airport. "If it does move in 2028, then it is hoped that it (IKN Airport) will be completed before that," said Dody in his statement, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Saturday (1/3/2025), quoted from Kontan.co.id.
