Ministry Of Transportation Will Evaluate Airplane Ticket Discount Program, Here's Why

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) will evaluate the implementation of flight ticket discounts during Lebaran 2025 due to minimal passenger growth and the number of flights. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said minimal growth during the flight ticket discount period would be an evaluation material. However, he still claims that whatever the growth is, it represents public interest. "That is our evaluation material, but it means there is an increase, it shows that there is public interest in taking advantage of the fare discount, regarding the percentage, but there is also an increase," said Dudy at the DPR Building, Wednesday (23/4/2025). Furthermore, Dudy said the evaluation also includes whether flight ticket discounts will be re-implemented at special moments in the future. 

Regarding the announcement of the sudden ticket reduction, it will also be noted. He said the reduction in flight tickets requires coordination with many parties. "The conditions at the time of the implementation of flight tickets, so there are many components or many things and many parties involved in the reduction in ticket prices. My hope is that it can be done earlier, because this is an evaluation material, this is an evaluation material," he explained. 

Based on Bisnis' records, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero) or InJourney Airports recorded limited growth in the number of aircraft passengers during the 14% ticket discount period during Eid 2025, namely March 24–April 7, 2025, at 37 airports it manages. Based on data from the 2025 Eid Transportation Center Post obtained by Bisnis, the number of passengers served reached 7.39 million people. This figure only increased by 0.8% compared to the same period the previous year which reached 7.34 million passengers. During the 15-day discount period, the available seating capacity reached 8.6 million, while the passenger occupancy rate was only 86.1% of the total capacity. Meanwhile, the number of flights was recorded to have decreased by 5.1% to 51,261 flights, compared to 54,023 flights in the same period last year. This number is almost equivalent to the flight plan set at 51,263 flights. The government previously announced a 13–14% reduction in domestic economy class airfares for the period March 24 to April 7, 2025, with the ticket purchase period running from March 1 to April 7, 2025.
