Vietjet and Airbus have officially signed a contract for the purchase of 20 of the latest generation wide-body aircraft, the A330neo (A330-900), worth US$7.4 billion (around Rp120 trillion) based on factory prices, at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024 in London, England. The contract signing was witnessed by Vietjet CEO, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, and CEO of the Commercial Aircraft Business Airbus, Christian Scherer. This deal is one of the largest at this year's Farnborough Airshow. The new aircraft will be used to serve Vietjet's expanding long-haul flight routes with high demand in the region. This new fleet will replace the A330-300 aircraft currently operated by Vietjet and support the strategic plans of this Vietnamese airline to expand its intercontinental flight network. Vietjet CEO, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao stated, "These new A330neo aircraft strategically strengthen our fleet and enhance the airline's operational capacity in supporting the company's global expansion efforts. The integration of advanced and fuel-efficient A330neo aircraft into Vietjet's fleet is part of our strategy to achieve sustainable development and ESG goals, with a target of achieving zero emissions by 2050. Soon, travelers will be able to enjoy safer, more comfortable, and modern long-haul flights. With the support of Airbus aircraft, Vietjet is able to provide cost-effective flights for more than 200 million passengers, including first-time flyers, connecting various countries and continents while driving economic growth and cultural exchange." This aircraft will be an ideal platform for Vietjet Air to carry more passengers over longer distances and at lower costs, while reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The A330neo is equipped with an Airspace cabin that sets new standards in comfort, space, and design, and provides a unique flying experience for passengers. Features in this state-of-the-art aircraft include new lighting systems, larger overhead bins, and ease of access to entertainment systems and the latest in-flight connectivity. Powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 can fly non-stop for 7,200 nm (13,300 km). Currently, Vietjet operates more than 105 aircraft to meet the increasing demand for flights in Vietnam, Indonesia, other Southeast Asian countries, and various other destinations in the Asia Pacific region. Vietjet offers four routes connecting Vietnam and Indonesia, from Jakarta and Bali to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, two major cities in Vietnam that also serve as flight transit hubs. Indonesian travelers planning family vacations can easily reach tourist destinations in Vietnam (such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Da Lat) and various destinations in the Asia Pacific region with Vietjet's connecting flights.
