To enhance comfort and the overall flying experience, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) has teamed up with the national airline, Garuda Indonesia, through its Strategic Business Unit (SBU) TelkomMetra, specifically MetraMediaHub, to introduce Wireless In-Flight Entertainment (W-IFE). With W-IFE now available on flights, Garuda Indonesia can provide a wireless entertainment system that allows passengers to access a variety of content on their personal devices, like smartphones, tablets, or laptops. Passengers of all ages can easily enjoy dozens of films, including the latest Hollywood releases, blockbusters, Indonesian films, and international titles, along with short programs, documentaries, series, and top 100 music albums across various genres. “The partnership with Garuda Indonesia to bring Wireless In-Flight Entertainment is a significant milestone for MetraMediaHub. We are dedicated to continuously improving this service with high-quality and diverse content, along with regular updates to meet passenger needs. Our goal is to make flying with Garuda Indonesia more than just a trip,” said Iin Kusumastiwi, Head of SBU MetraMediaHub. With easy access, a wide range of content, and a more personalized experience, passengers can now enjoy air travel in a more enjoyable and satisfying way. This technology not only benefits passengers but also opens up new opportunities for airlines to enhance their services while maximizing ancillary revenue potential. The W-IFE solution also allows Garuda Indonesia to add more value in a highly competitive airline service landscape. Senada, the CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, mentioned that the introduction of the W-IFE service is part of Garuda Indonesia's ongoing efforts to add value for its customers, especially by enhancing comfort during flights. "We recognize that with the rapid advancement of technology, easy access to various entertainment content has become an essential need for people, particularly for the millennial and Gen Z generations, who are a significant market for Garuda Indonesia. We hope that this wireless inflight entertainment service will strengthen the digital ecosystem that the company is developing to provide a seamless flying experience for all passengers at every touchpoint, from pre-flight to in-flight and post-flight," Irfan explained. Currently, the W-IFE service is available on two Garuda Indonesia aircraft, the B 737-800 NG with registration numbers PK-GUD and PK-GUE, and soon it will be implemented on an A330-300 aircraft with registration number PK-GPF after the hajj service. Looking ahead, Garuda Indonesia and TelkomMetra, through MetraMediaHub, are committed to continuously enhancing the entertainment services offered. MetraMediaHub also aims to "Bring Indonesia to The World" by featuring more local entertainment content on Garuda Indonesia flights, ensuring that Indonesian content gets more exposure on both domestic and international flights. Additionally, the content will be updated every two months with new titles. With subtitles available, all passengers can enjoy entertainment without language barriers, marking a significant step towards improving inclusivity and accessibility in the aviation industry.
