Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has appointed 30 officials to measure fishing vessels within the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). Minister Dudy stated that this initiative is part of the government's efforts to support marine conservation in the country. "Measuring fishing vessels is not just an administrative task or technical measurement; it is part of our commitment to marine sustainability and sustainable development," said Minister Dudy at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in Jakarta on Thursday (12/12). The thirty officials will be responsible for ensuring that every fishing vessel operating in Indonesian waters complies with the relevant regulations. Minister Dudy added that the marine and fisheries sector is a key pillar of national economic development and a source of livelihood for millions, especially fishermen. To ensure the fisheries sector can develop sustainably, it is crucial to pay attention to various aspects, such as technical standards, safety, and the measurement of fishing vessels, which are essential for ensuring these vessels meet safety and seaworthiness standards. Currently, there are approximately 54,339 fishing vessels across Indonesia, with 79 percent being small boats ranging from 7 GT to 60 GT. "Therefore, there is a need to accelerate the development of human resources with the skills to measure fishing vessels owned by fishermen and fishery entrepreneurs," he stated. Furthermore, Minister Dudy explained that the appointed officials have significant responsibilities in their roles. He hopes that all personnel will perform their duties with integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail, in line with the standards set by the Ministry of Transportation. During the same event, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono reminded the officials to uphold their responsibilities diligently. He emphasized that there should be no dishonesty in the ship measurement process. "We must ensure that the ships being measured truly meet the norms and standards, so that when they go out to sea to fish, they can be relied upon," the Minister stated. Also present at the inauguration were Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Didit Herdiawan, Director General of Sea Transportation Antoni Arif Priadi, and other key officials from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
