Japan Is Becoming More Intimate In Producing Competent Industry Human Resources

Monday, 15 Jul 2024

Indonesia and Japan have been strategic partners for 66 years. The Ministry of Industry is actively working to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the industrial sector. One of the key points discussed in the meeting between Minister of Industry AgusGumiwangKartasasmita and Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) Ken Saito in Tokyo last June was collaboration in the development of industrial human resources. The Ministry of Industry has invited Japanese companies to collaborate on human resources development through the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI). This was emphasized during a visit from Asia Africa Research Consulting and Investment (AAI Co., Ltd.) and other Japanese delegates. The goal is to establish closer and sustainable collaboration in industrial human resources development. This initiative has garnered interest from various Japanese companies, including those in retail, education, food and beverage product development, system development, renewable energy, waste management, clothing and accessories, and restaurant chains. BPSDMI is promoting the Ministry of Industry's programs to enhance the quality and quantity of the national industrial human resources, particularly through vocational education in 13 universities and nine vocational high schools to produce graduates ready to meet the needs of the industrial world.

Currently, we have 6,000 graduates from vocational schools and polytechnics per year, and many of them are already 'booked' by the industry upon graduation," explained Masrokhan.

Meanwhile, BPSDMI also regularly holds the 3 in 1 Training Program through seven Industrial Training Centers (BDI) under its umbrella. The training is not only conducted at these seven BDI locations, but also in various regions from Aceh to Papua.

"For the 3 in 1 competency-based training, we train around 33 thousand training participants every year. With this number of participants, we strive to meet the needs of competent industrial workforce," Masrokhan continued.

Masrokhan also explained that the Ministry of Industry has taken steps towards the transformation of Industry 4.0 through PIDI 4.0, which is currently a one-stop solution for the implementation of Industry 4.0 in Indonesia and a showcase to the world.

The Head of AAI Co., Ltd., Hirohide Nakamura, as the leader of the delegation, expressed the potential for cooperation between his company and BPSDMI Ministry of Industry is becoming more open. "Previously, we have opened an international industry class in Japan, the first from Indonesia. Students from ATI Makassar Polytechnic will be sent to Japan to learn about the industry there. The opportunity for cooperation with other schools and universities in Indonesia is wide open," Nakamura revealed.
