In the midst of the ever-changing global and geopolitical challenges, Indonesia is taking steps towards energy independence by maximizing the use of local resources, as highlighted by President Prabowo Subianto in his inaugural address. This commitment aims not only to reduce reliance on energy imports but also serves as a long-term strategy to enhance national energy resilience and self-sufficiency. To support this vision, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is dedicated to pushing the manufacturing sector to become more robust and competitive on a global scale. Additionally, the industry is expected to take on social and environmental responsibilities by effectively utilizing technology and national resources. Andi Rizaldi, head of the Industrial Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), echoed this sentiment, stating that the industrial sector is not just the backbone of the national economy but also has a significant responsibility in preserving the environment. “The Ministry of Industry has taken concrete steps by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between BSKJI and the Directorate General of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage, under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, to achieve the Net Zero Emission target in the industrial sector as a long-term goal,” Andi mentioned during a work visit to PLN Indonesia Power Jabar 2 in Pelabuhan Ratu on Monday (28/10). The scope of this collaboration includes monitoring and controlling environmental impacts, implementing green industry policies, fostering synergy, and ensuring objective environmental monitoring, as well as optimizing the use of industrial resources to support more environmentally friendly and sustainable operations. “Therefore, active participation and innovative service solutions are essential to support the green industry transformation,” Andi added. The Balai Besar Standardisasi dan Pelayanan Jasa Pencegahan Pencemaran Industri (BBSPJPPI) in Semarang is a key technical unit under BSKJI, dedicated to creating innovative and practical services that help both industries and communities comply with regulations while reducing environmental impact. Andi mentioned that BBSPJPPI has developed expertise in supporting ongoing emission monitoring through the implementation of Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) audits across various industries. These CEMS audits aim to enhance service capabilities to meet industry needs in line with the regulations set by PermenLHK No 13 of 2021, particularly in conducting Relative Accuracy Test Audits (RATA), Cylinder Gas Audits (CGA), and Response Correlation Audits (RCA). During the same event, Sidik Herman, the head of BBSPJPPI Semarang, emphasized their readiness to contribute to energy independence as directed by the President, leveraging their expertise and continuously innovating to support this goal. One of the innovations introduced by BBSPJPPI Semarang is the development of CEMS audit services. “As one of BBSPJPPI's main services, the CEMS audit is mandatory for 10 industrial sectors, including iron and steel melting, pulp and paper, rayon, carbon black, oil and gas, mining, thermal waste processing, cement, thermal power generation, and fertilizers and ammonium nitrate. Sigit explained that BBSPJPPI is also preparing resources for the development of other innovative services, such as greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory services, calibration of Air Quality Monitoring Systems (AQMS), and calibration of photometers for Hg CEMS. During a work visit to PLN Indonesia Power Jabar 2, BBSPJPPI ensured that the RCA (Relative Calibration Audit) as part of the CEMS audit is conducted accurately and thoroughly according to the established reference methods.
