Digital Content Consumption Spike Predicted To Occur Again During Ramadhan

The digital content industry in Indonesia is preparing for a surge in consumption that is predicted to occur again during the month of Ramadan, according to Viu Country Manager Avijit Dutta, Monday. 

Avijit said at the gala premiere of the series "Saudade" in the Senayan area, Jakarta, that platforms such as YouTube and TikTok experienced a threefold increase in usage in the same period last year. 

"Every year, we see a threefold increase in content consumption during the month of Ramadan. This is a time when people seek entertainment and information to fill their free time," said Avijit. 

Avijit also believes that during the month of Ramadan last year, entertainment applications such as Viu could have a drastic increase in the number of downloads, even surpassing popular applications such as WhatsApp, TikTok, and others. 

"Now we have a kind of expectation that exceeds last year. And we hope to capture the imagination of Gen Z Indonesia to encourage application downloads, and gain popularity in digital entertainment consumption," said Avijit. 

Avijit directed the production team, monetization team, marketing team, as well as the cast and crew who contributed to producing Viu's original series to target their marketing campaign to Gen Z, so that they "watch entertaining and useful content directly from Viu". 

He also invited all local digital content production teams in Indonesia to continue to innovate and interact with the younger generation, and produce creative and useful content. 

With thorough preparation and interesting content, he is optimistic that this industry can achieve success in Indonesia during this year's Ramadan. 

"Take your challenge, turn on the camera settings," he said, encouraging all content creators and media crews who attended the gala premiere.
