The completion of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) construction is a key focus for President Prabowo Subianto's administration. The target is to have the toll road segment linking Jambi to Riau completed by 2026. Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, stated that the government is emphasizing the completion of the JTTS, particularly the backbone route from Aceh to Lampung. This project is assigned to PT Hutama Karya (Persero). In the short term, the priority is to complete the construction from Palembang to Jambi, specifically the Palembang-Betung and Betung-Jambi segments. "We expect to finish by 2026 up to Jambi, and then proceed to connect Jambi to Riau," Tiko mentioned during a meeting at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises in Jakarta on Friday, November 15, 2024. Tiko indicated that coordination will take place with President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, to assess the priorities for completion. However, he assured that the focus will initially be on the Jambi-Pekanbaru (Riau) segment. "The priority is the Jambi-Pekanbaru route first, as it connects to the backbone. Discussions regarding the peripheral routes have not yet taken place," he added. Additionally, it is noteworthy that the JTTS construction has been ongoing since 2015. This project is being executed in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 42 of 2024, which amends Presidential Regulation No. 100 of 2014 concerning the Acceleration of Toll Road Development in Sumatra. For the new administration, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) under President Joko Widodo has entrusted the construction of 2,300 km of new toll roads, of which 1,600 km will be part of the JTTS. Overall, the JTTS project managed by PT Hutama Karya (Persero) spans approximately 2,845 kilometers. Of this total, around 1,235 kilometers have reached the completion stage and are currently operational. Consequently, there remains approximately 1,600 kilometers of roadway that is yet to be finished. Meanwhile, Hutama Karya is also advancing the development of JTTS Phase II, which will connect Palembang to Jambi. The construction is focused on linking the Palembang-Jambi-Dumai segments, followed by Phase III, which aims to achieve full connectivity from Lampung to Aceh, and Phase IV, which will connect the feeder areas. According to detikcom's records, as of October 2024, Hutama Karya has operated toll roads extending approximately 846 kilometers. Since its initial operation in 2017, the JTTS has been traversed by over 1 million vehicles daily, accumulating to hundreds of millions of vehicles in total. This growth continues to rise as more toll road segments become operational. The segments that have been opened include Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung, Palembang-Indralaya, Pekanbaru-Dumai, and Indrapura-Kisaran, all of which are now frequented by millions of vehicles.
