PT Sucofindo emphasizes its commitment to supporting a fair energy transition as part of efforts to mitigate climate change and achieve global decarbonization. As a Carbon Economic Value Validation and Verification Institution, Sucofindo plays a crucial role in ensuring that the transition to clean energy is conducted fairly and sustainably. This commitment was expressed at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP) in Azerbaijan, focusing on the theme "Just Energy Transition: A Core Component of the Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM) & Vital Role of Accredited VVB in Realizing Just Energy Transition in Indonesia." Nani Hendiarti, Deputy for Environmental and Forestry Management Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, explained that the Just Transition scheme is a concrete step to ensure that the energy transition not only reduces dependence on fossil fuels but also protects the social welfare of affected communities. "A fair energy transition ensures that communities gain access to new economic opportunities, skill training, gender equality, and adequate support. This is an integral part of Indonesia's broader strategy to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060," Nani Hendiarti stated in an official announcement on Wednesday (20/11). To accelerate this process, the Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM) serves as a financing solution that enables the development of green energy infrastructure, energy efficiency, and the acceleration of renewable energy. During the forum, Dissa Natri, an Environmental Specialist at Sucofindo, highlighted the importance of accredited validation and verification bodies (VVB) in ensuring that the implementation of ETM is transparent and accountable. The company is committed to supporting the ETM implementation through various services, such as energy transition readiness assessments, technical evaluations for early retirement of coal-fired power plants, asset management consulting, and emission verification. These services ensure that the transition to clean energy meets national and global sustainability standards, Dissa added. The company also provides other technical services, such as consulting for alternative fuel switching and retrofitting for power plants. They also assess the feasibility of green energy infrastructure, conduct technical inspections, and oversee the commissioning of renewable energy operational facilities, along with monitoring, reporting, and verifying sustainability transitions. Hendra Yusran Siry, an expert staff member at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, emphasizes that the Just Transition scheme is a comprehensive solution for achieving sustainable decarbonization. "Just Transition ensures that the energy transition effectively reduces emissions while being fair to all affected parties. With financing mechanisms like ETM and VVB support in Indonesia, we can realize the vision of Indonesia as a country with a clean and sustainable energy system," said Hendra. Sucofindo, along with the government and the private sector, continues to work on integrating just energy transition initiatives to support the NZE 2060 target. This scheme is expected to serve as a sustainable energy transition model for the world, while also enhancing Indonesia's role in global climate change mitigation.
