President Prabowo Subianto has announced that the provincial minimum wage (UMP) for the upcoming year will increase by 6.5%. He emphasized that this adjustment in the minimum wage for 2025 aims to enhance the purchasing power of workers while also considering the competitiveness of businesses. Initially, Prabowo mentioned that Minister of Manpower Yassierli had proposed a more modest increase of 6%. However, following discussions with labor representatives, he advocated for a rise to 6.5%. "After deliberating and holding meetings with labor leaders, we have decided to raise the national average minimum wage for 2025 by 6.5%," Prabowo stated during an official announcement at the Presidential Office in Central Jakarta on Friday. Furthermore, regarding sectoral minimum wages, Prabowo highlighted that these will be determined by the Provincial, City, and Regency Wage Councils. More detailed regulations concerning minimum wages will be established by the Minister of Manpower's regulations. "Dear colleagues, the welfare of workers is of utmost importance. We will continue to strive for improvements in their well-being," Prabowo concluded. This announcement followed a limited meeting with State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
