Tuesday, 14 Jan 2025

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto articulated the nation's diplomatic approach aimed at fostering amicable relations with all countries and global economic blocs, without showing favoritism towards Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

"We have outlined various issues where Indonesia seeks to maintain positive relations with all nations worldwide and all economic blocs, with the intention of nurturing close ties," President Prabowo stated during a joint press conference at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java, on Saturday.

President Prabowo further elaborated that Indonesia's aspiration to cultivate good relations is expected to alleviate geopolitical tensions among major countries.

In a bilateral meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister, Prabowo noted that they engaged in an intensive discussion covering a range of topics, including bilateral cooperation, significant regional issues, global geopolitics, and a mutual commitment to continue the longstanding partnership. "We share a commitment to advance cooperation in the fields of economy and infrastructure, as well as in energy resilience, industrial downstreaming, and collaboration in agriculture, human resources, and health," Prabowo remarked. Consequently, President Prabowo extended an invitation to the Japanese Government to participate in the downstreaming or industrialization initiatives currently being pursued by Indonesia.

The bilateral meeting between the Indonesian and Japanese governments took place following a private tête-à-tête between Prime Minister Ishiba and President Prabowo in the President's office.
