The Regulation of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2020 concerning the Rules of Procedure has been agreed upon for revision. This revision includes the addition of Article 228A, which pertains to the authority of the People's Consultative Assembly to evaluate candidates in institutions or agencies that have been designated by them through plenary meetings. Initially, the Deputy Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly, Adies Kadir, invited the head of the Legislative Body to present their report. "During the Legislative Body meeting on February 3, 2025, an intensive discussion took place, and a brief factional perspective on the draft regulation of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia regarding amendments to Regulation Number 1 of 2020 concerning the Rules of Procedure was read, indicating the approval of all factions for the proposed changes to the Rules of Procedure," stated Sturman Panjaitan, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Body, during the 12th plenary session of the second session of the 2024-2025 legislative year in the plenary room, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Sturman noted that there is an addition of substance between Articles 228 and 229, specifically Article 228A concerning the authority of the People's Consultative Assembly. The text of the article is as follows: Article 228A (1) In order to enhance the oversight function and uphold the dignity of the People's Consultative Assembly regarding the results of commission discussions as referred to in Article 227 Paragraph (2), the Assembly may conduct periodic evaluations of candidates who have been designated in the plenary meeting of the Assembly. (2) The results of the evaluation as referred to in Paragraph 1 are binding and shall be submitted by the evaluating commission to the leadership of the Assembly for further action in accordance with applicable mechanisms. In response to this matter, Adies sought the approval of the Assembly members. They consented to the changes in the Rules of Procedure. "Agreed," responded the Assembly members, accompanied by a gavel strike from the leadership as a sign of approval.
