Prabowo To Inaugurate Indonesia's First Gold Bank Today

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate the first gold bank in Indonesia today. This was revealed by the Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana. 

Yusuf said the inauguration will be held at The Gade Tower, Central Jakarta. The event will be held at 14.00 WIB. 

"This afternoon, President Prabowo is scheduled to inaugurate the Gold Bank Service. This Gold Bank Service is the first in Indonesia," said Yusuf in a written statement, Wednesday (26/2). 

Yusuf said the inauguration of this gold bank is part of the downstreaming of the industry. He said Prabowo had initiated the downstreaming of the industry through Asta Cita. 

"This inauguration is one of President Prabowo's strategic steps in strengthening the national gold industry ecosystem," he said. 

Previously, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) issued OJK Regulation Number 17 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of Bullion Business Activities. This regulation is the basis for financial services institutions to engage in the gold business. 

On January 6, 2025, OJK gave PT Pegadaian permission to become the first gold bank in Indonesia. About a month later, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) also received permission as a gold bank. 

Pegadaian and BSI can carry out gold bank business activities which include gold deposits, gold working capital loans, corporate gold deposit services and gold trading. 

Prabowo said that a gold bank will improve gold management in Indonesia. According to him, so far Indonesian gold has been mined and then sent abroad. 

"So so far we have not had a bank for our gold. There is none in Indonesia. So our gold is mostly mined and flows abroad. And we want to have a special gold bank in Indonesia now," said Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (17/2).
