The government will invite business associations to discuss the reciprocal tariff policy implemented by the United States (US). The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday (7/4/2025) at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the meeting would discuss export strategies and the impact of US tariff policies on labor-intensive sectors. "All industries will be invited to provide input regarding their exports, especially labor-intensive sectors," Airlangga said in a press release, Sunday (6/4/2025). The government is also preparing strategic steps to face the opening of the European market. The region is the third largest export destination after China and the US. "We can encourage this so that our export market is wider," said Airlangga. The government will not retaliate against US President Donald Trump's tariff policy. Indonesia has chosen the path of diplomacy and negotiation in order to maintain long-term relations and the investment climate. "We are asked to respond before April 9. The government is preparing an action plan by considering aspects of imports and investment from the US," continued Airlangga. A number of labor-intensive industrial sectors are expected to be directly affected. The apparel and footwear industry is included in the category most vulnerable to global market fluctuations. Airlangga said that President Prabowo Subianto had instructed the government to immediately send an official letter to the US before April 9, 2025. The letter will be Indonesia's diplomatic response to the tariff policy announced by Trump. "The President asked us to write before April 9. The technical team is preparing steps within the framework of deregulation according to the results of the Cabinet Meeting last March," he said.
