This week, three ministers from the Merah Putih Cabinet are scheduled to travel to the United States to negotiate with the U.S. government regarding the reciprocal tariff of 32 percent imposed on Indonesia. The ministers involved are Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. The Indonesian delegation plans to meet with all relevant parties to discuss the Trump administration's tariff policies, particularly with the United States Trade Representative (USTR). It has been indicated that the government will negotiate by proposing a relaxation of non-tariff policies. Additionally, the government is considering revising the implementation of value-added tax and income tax on American products. In the context of escalating trade tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week the suspension of reciprocal tariffs for 75 countries, excluding China. This postponement was a response to outreach from numerous countries, including Indonesia.
