Monday, 15 Jul 2024

Minister of Transportation Budi KaryaSumadi announced that the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) or Autonomous Tram series is scheduled to arrive in the National Capital (IKN) at the end of July and will be operational in August 2024. This was conveyed by the Minister while inspecting the location of the Autonomous Tram line on SumbuKebangsaan Street in the Core Government Center (KIPP) of IKN, on Friday (12/7).

"The series of Autonomous Trams has been shipped from China in early July 2024. According to calculations, the expedition ship carrying the Autonomous Tram is expected to arrive at Balikpapan Port and is scheduled to arrive in IKN at the end of July 2024 after the customs clearance process is completed. Therefore, the Autonomous Tram is expected to be operational in August 2024," said the Minister.

The Minister explained that after arriving in IKN, the components of the Autonomous Tram are planned to be assembled and internally tested. Then, preparations and joint testing will also be carried out, followed by the implementation of the Proof of Concept (POC) in August 2024. The plan for a showcase or performance demonstration will be held from October to December 2024."Hopefully, this schedule can be realized according to plan, and the Autonomous Tram in IKN can truly inspire other cities in Indonesia in developing smart transportation," explained the Minister.

The Minister added that the Autonomous Tram is a leap in the use of new technology in the transportation world in Indonesia, namely a rail-less train. The Autonomous Tram is operated using batteries with operation guided by reading road markings through sensors, making this vehicle effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fossil energy consumption.Furthermore, the Minister also explained that SumbuKebangsaan Street, which will be traversed by the Autonomous Tram, has a very smooth texture. This will certainly make it comfortable for riders and passengers passing through.Meanwhile, it has also been decided that the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing will soon build stops to support the operation of this Autonomous Tram.Interesting enough, the upcoming bus stop will not only serve as a place for passengers to get on and off, but also function as a charging station," concluded the Minister of Transportation.Just so you know, the Autonomous Tram brought to Indonesia consists of one trainset with three cars. According to the Minister of Transportation, this Autonomous Tram has proven its reliability, as it has been recognized in several countries.
