Wednesday, 24 Jul 2024

Continuing the success of GIIAS in the previous year, this year Astra Financial as the financial services division of PT Astra International Tbk is once again the Platinum Sponsor of the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 for the sixth time.

In addition to being present as a financial partner for GIIAS 2023 visitors with various promos and attractive offers, Astra Financial also emphasizes sustainability and involves the community in contributing to preserving the earth through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability programs, namely waste crafting.

Waste crafting is the activity of transforming waste or used items, such as cardboard, plastic, or other materials, into works of art or new products that are beneficial.

The goal is to reduce waste, teach creativity, and raise environmental awareness. By utilizing materials that should be discarded, waste crafting can provide environmentally friendly alternatives and support sustainable practices.

In conjunction with the 40th National Children's Day, Astra Financial collaborated with Nur Maliyanti, also known as IbuKardus. The well-known figure who creates various cardboard creations showcased her skills and invited 25 students from Homeschooling Kak Seto to join in this waste crafting activity.

They transformed used cardboard into various objects, toys, and character masks from cartoon movies. The activity took place at the Main Booth of Astra Financial in Hall 7 of the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City, Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Yulian Warman, the Co-Project Director of ESG & ESR at Astra Financial, stated: "The waste crafting activity presented by Astra Financial is a manifestation of our commitment to promoting sustainability initiatives and as a social responsibility program and a contribution to the aspirations of Astra 2030 Sustainability.

"Our hope is that this activity can raise environmental awareness and support the creativity of the Indonesian community," he added.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia data shows that paper/cardboard waste throughout 2023 reached 11 percent of the total waste in the country based on the type of waste.

Meanwhile, nationally managed waste in 2023 reached 20.37 million tons/year. That amount represents about 64.80 percent of the total waste accumulation nationally.

Valuable Moments

Nur Maliyanti said: "Creating using used cardboard is not only fun, but also beneficial because it can extend the life of used cardboard waste. We can turn used cardboard into cute and interesting works, such as toy cars, dollhouses, or animals."

"In addition, the process of making these toys can be a valuable bonding moment for parents and children. Especially, children can play with toys created by themselves in the future," said Nur Maliyanti.

Tantowi, a teacher accompanying students from Homeschooling Kak Seto, admitted that he was happy to be involved in the activity. He considers this activity to be beneficial for children. "In addition to increasing creativity, children also learn the importance of recycling and caring for the environment in a fun way," said Tantowi.

Astra Financial also invites visitors of GIIAS 2024 to contribute to realizing a sustainable earth with activities at the Pre Function Hall Nusantara booth.

By uploading one post at the Astra Financial booth at GIIAS 2024 through social media, the public will contribute an amount of Rp 10,000. This contribution will be channeled to school development programs and scholarship distribution.
