Presidential Office Creates Instagram Account For President Of Indonesia

, 03 Nov 2024

The Presidential Palace has launched a new Instagram account specifically for the President of Indonesia, named @presidenrepublikindonesia. This account was created about four days ago, on October 26, 2024. It currently features just one post, which is a photo of Prabowo Subianto taking the oath of office as President at the DPR/MPR building on October 20.

According to the description, @presidenrepublikindonesia is the official account of the Presidential Office, managed by the Presidential Communication Office.

As of Wednesday, October 30, at 3:00 PM WIB, the account has gained 655,000 followers, while the account @republikindonesia has 587,000 followers. Both accounts are verified with a blue checkmark. The profile picture for @presidenrepublikindonesia is of Prabowo. So far, it has only one post showing Prabowo taking the oath during the presidential inauguration in Jakarta on October 20.

In contrast, the @republikindonesia account only has one post featuring the waving red and white flag. Hasan Nasbi, the head of the Presidential Communication Office, stated that this account is institutional and not a personal account for Prabowo.

"This is not a personal Instagram for Mr. Prabowo; it is an account for the presidential institution. So, it is not a personal account," Hasan said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on October 30. He explained that the account was created to secure the username and prevent others from using it.

"However, we may focus more on the account for the President of the Republic of Indonesia," he added. In addition to @presidenrepublikindonesia, the Presidential Communication Office has also created the account @republikindonesia.

Hasan explained the importance of creating both accounts by looking at official presidential accounts in other countries. He gave the example of the Instagram account @potus. This account belongs to the 'President of the United States' and will be used by each U.S. president during their term. "So, whoever the president is, they will use this account," Hasan said.
