A member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Nasdem faction, Andina Narang, has urged the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to act as a facilitator regarding the extensive media coverage surrounding the construction of an apartment building at the Indian Embassy. This statement was made by Andina during a Hearing Meeting (RDP) of Commission I with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, at the House of Representatives building on Monday, December 2. The inaugural RDP of Commission I with the Minister of Foreign Affairs was chaired by Utut Adianto, the Chairman of Commission I from the PDI Perjuangan faction, focusing on the primary topic of the 100-day program presentation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "Concerning the conflict between local residents and the Indian Embassy, I would like you to serve as a facilitator to address this issue and engage in a persuasive approach, ensuring that this matter does not persist, in order to maintain harmonious relations with India," Andina stated. As reported, the construction of an 18-story apartment building in the vicinity of the Indian Embassy on Jl HR Rasuna Said has sparked a prolonged public controversy over the past two weeks. This issue has gained renewed attention due to the legal appeal initiated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to the Administrative High Court (PTTUN). On August 29, 2024, the Administrative Court (PTUN) previously ruled in favor of the residents' lawsuit, ordering the DKI Provincial Government to temporarily revoke the construction permit for the Indian Embassy. David M.L. Tobing, the legal representative for the residents, emphasized that despite winning the lawsuit at the PTUN level, the residents remain committed to constructive communication and focusing on solutions. He repeatedly asserted that the residents do not have any intention to obstruct the Indian Embassy's construction plans. "Since the issue is straightforward, the solution should also be simple: reprocess the construction permit for the Indian Embassy. Engage in dialogue with the residents to find common ground. The residents' anger and subsequent lawsuit stem from a manipulative permitting process that is disconnected from reality," David stated.
