Indonesia And The United States Enhance Political And Security Cooperation

Indonesia and the United States (US) have reached an agreement to enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics and security to maintain regional stability and security. This agreement was established during a meeting between the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs of Indonesia, Budi Gunawan, and the US Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdir, at the office of the Coordinating Minister in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. "Today, I had the honor of receiving a visit from the US Ambassador to Indonesia, Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdir. In our meeting, we discussed various potential collaborations regarding the implementation of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States," stated Budi Gunawan in his remarks. 

The meeting focused on the potential areas of cooperation that could be developed between the two nations. "I hope that both countries will continue to commit to strengthening cooperation across various sectors," Budi Gunawan added. 

The bilateral relationship between Indonesia and the US has been established for 75 years, dating back to Indonesia's struggle for independence. On November 12, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia also held a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden of the US at the White House in Washington, D.C. This meeting is regarded as a significant milestone in the relationship between the two countries. During this occasion, the US government expressed its full support for President Prabowo Subianto's administration and its national priority programs, including Asta Cita.
