Friday, 24 Jan 2025

The future of the National Capital City (IKN) Nusantara appears increasingly promising following President Prabowo Subianto's announcement regarding the continuation of infrastructure development centered on the concept of a 'Political Capital.' This statement was made by President Prabowo during a limited meeting aimed at accelerating the development of IKN Nusantara at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Present at the meeting were several key officials, including Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono.

Minister AHY emphasized that the development of IKN remains a priority for President Prabowo's administration, adhering to the established timeline and phases. "In accordance with the directives from President Prabowo Subianto, we will continue the development of IKN, following the previously set timeline and stages as a clarification to the public," he stated in the Cabinet Meeting Room at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on January 21, 2025. AHY further elaborated that the focus of IKN's development will be on the 'Political Capital' concept, which includes completing government facilities, such as legislative bodies (DPR RI, DPD RI, and MPR RI) and judicial institutions. President Prabowo aims to establish IKN Nusantara as the Political Capital by the end of his administration in 2029.

He believes that positioning IKN as the Political Capital aligns with his vision to create a comprehensive governance structure that reflects democracy. "The President hopes to concentrate efforts there so that once all three functions are established, we can effectively carry out both daily and strategic political activities," he added.
