Megawati And Prabowo: The Long-Awaited Meeting In Indonesian Politics

The issue of a meeting between PDI Perjuangan General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and President-elect Prabowo Subianto has become stronger again. This discourse has actually been around since the 2024 Election, but until now it has not been realized. The meeting of the two central figures in the national political stage is considered crucial, especially in determining the direction of PDI-P's political stance towards the Prabowo-Gibran government which will run for the next five years. The reason is, PDI-P is not part of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) which supports Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 Presidential Election. At that time, PDI-P chose to support the pair Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD as presidential and vice presidential candidates. Until now, PDI-P has not stated its stance to join the ranks of parties supporting the Prabowo-Gibran government. Meeting Signals Strengthen After Eid News of a meeting between Megawati and Prabowo resurfaced after Didit Hediprasetyo, Prabowo's only son, visited Megawati's residence on Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri. PDI-P Spokesperson Ahmad Basarah said that the meeting between Megawati and Prabowo was just a matter of time. 

"And I think the meeting between Ibu Mega and Pak Prabowo is just a matter of time," said Basarah when met in front of Megawati's house in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, Monday (31/3/2025). Basarah also emphasized that the personal relationship between Megawati and Prabowo has been very good so far. "Because Ibu Mega has repeatedly said that the personal relationship between Ibu Mega and Pak Prabowo has been very good from the past until now," he said. 

PDI-P DPP Chair Puan Maharani also made a similar statement. According to Megawati's daughter, the meeting between her mother and Prabowo is just a matter of time. "As soon as possible," said Puan briefly when met at the Widya Chandra Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (2/4/2025). A similar attitude was also conveyed by the Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. He said that both parties had agreed to meet soon. 

"Well, that's mutual, agreed, as soon as possible. When is the soonest, let's just wait," said Dasco. Puan also revealed that when Didit visited Megawati during Eid, a video call was actually planned between Prabowo and Megawati.
