PDIP Politician Says Prabowo-Megawati Talked Face To Face For 1.5 Hours

PDIP spokesperson Guntur Romli said the meeting between Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo Subianto took place at Megawati's residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta. The two had a private talk on Monday, April 7, 2025. 

"Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo held a private talk for about 1.5 hours," said Guntur Romli in a written statement to Tempo, Wednesday, April 9, 2025. 

He said the arrival of the Gerindra general chairman to Megawati's residence happened suddenly so that many parties did not know beforehand. 

Guntur said that the private meeting discussed many more personal matters about their friendship. Although sudden, said Guntur, the meeting had actually been planned for a long time. 

"However, because of both of their busy schedules, this is the first time the meeting has been able to take place," he said. Not only did they meet, Prabowo also gave Megawati an Eid parcel containing her favorite vegetables. 

"Mrs. Megawati likes large tomatoes as one of the vegetables in her Eid parcel. In fact, Mrs. Megawati wants to get tomato seedlings to plant herself," said Guntur. According to Guntur, the general chairman of his party has often said on many occasions that he feels there are no obstacles to silaturahmi with President Prabowo even though the current political position of the PDIP is still outside the government. 

Guntur said that the meeting between the two figures was planned during the silaturahmi of the MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani to Megawati's residence on December 25, 2024. At the meeting, Megawati had time to leave a massage oil for Prabowo. In addition to personal topics, the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia and the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia also discussed global issues such as the US-China Trade War, the Israeli conflict with Arab countries, the Russia-Ukraine War, Tensions in the South China Sea and global warming and its impact on Indonesia. 

In addition, the two general chairmen of political parties also discussed national strategic issues, especially matters concerning the safety and welfare of the people in accordance with the Pancasila rule of law. 

"Finally, President Prabowo and Mrs. Megawati are committed to continuing to communicate and coordinate, especially when it comes to national and international strategic interests," said Guntur. The Daily Chair of the Gerindra Party's Central Leadership Council, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, confirmed the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati Soekarnoputri on Monday, April 7, 2025. Dasco said the meeting was held at Megawati's residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Central Jakarta, in the context of the Eid al-Fitr gathering.
