Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were officially inaugurated on Sunday, October 20, as Indonesia's eighth president and fourteenth vice president, respectively, for the 2024-2029 term at the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta. In his inaugural address to the MPR at the Nusantara Building in Jakarta, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized his commitment to leading Indonesia with integrity and accountability, prioritizing the welfare of all citizens. “We will govern the Republic of Indonesia with sincerity, ensuring that the interests of every citizen are paramount, including those who did not support us,” he declared. The President addressed both domestic and international challenges that the nation faces. Despite its abundant natural resources, Indonesia grapples with numerous obstacles and threats, and he underscored the importance of courage in addressing these issues. “I urge everyone, particularly leaders among scholars, clerics, businesspeople, political figures, youth, and students, to unite in confronting these challenges,” he called. President Prabowo also highlighted persistent internal problems, such as corruption, budget mismanagement, and collusion between officials and unscrupulous businesspeople. “We must recognize the significant budgetary leaks, irregularities, and collusion between political and government officials at all levels with unpatriotic business interests. We cannot ignore this reality,” he stated. During his speech, the President pointed out that many Indonesians continue to live in poverty, including children who go to school without breakfast and attend poorly maintained schools. The President advised caution against prematurely celebrating statistical gains without a comprehensive understanding of the overall context. He urged collective action to address these issues. "We must face threats and challenges with bravery and approach difficulties with resilience. Let us work together and unite in our efforts to find solutions and overcome these obstacles," he emphasized.
