Indonesia Accelerates Digital Transformation Through The Adoption Of IPv6 Technology

, 22 Dec 2024

Indonesia is currently accelerating its digital transformation through advancements in network technology and the adoption of IPv6 Enhanced Net5.5G. This technology serves as a network protocol that facilitates the connection and identification of devices on the internet.

IPv6 is the latest version of the Internet Protocol (IP) developed to replace IPv4. Compared to its predecessor, IPv6 offers several advantages, including a significantly larger number of IP addresses. Furthermore, IPv6 enhances the management and delegation of addresses, providing improved and easier automatic configuration capabilities. The global market for IPv6 is estimated to reach 34.3 billion units in 2023 and is projected to grow to 127.6 billion units by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of 20.6% from 2023 to 2030.

Teguh Prasetya, the Chairman of the Indonesian IoT Association (ASIOTI), stated that the penetration of IPv6 in Indonesia is expected to reach approximately 16% by 2024, a significant increase from just 6% in 2022.

However, Teguh emphasized the need for further acceleration to support the IoT ecosystem in Indonesia, which has now surpassed one billion devices. "We are still in the early stages," Teguh remarked at the IPv6 Enhanced Net5.5G Conference 2024 held in Jakarta on December 19, 2024.

According to Teguh, the adoption of IPv6 Enhanced Net5.5G is crucial for ensuring the security of platforms and applications, especially with the rollout of 5G technology. "This is not merely about enhancing capabilities; it is also about supporting low latency, which is essential for advanced technologies such as IoT and smart cities," he stated. Additionally, the initiative for Indonesia's Net5.5G action plan includes four key components that call upon industry stakeholders to expedite the commercial implementation of Net5.5G in the country. The first initiative encourages companies to increase their investments in research and development while promoting breakthroughs and innovations in IPv6 and Net5.5G technology.
