The Acting Mayor of Bandung, West Java, Ir. A. Koswara, MP, conducted a direct inspection of the implementation of SIMONA (Aquaponic Monitoring System) in the field. SIMONA is a food security initiative resulting from a collaboration between Telkom Indonesia and Telkom University. It has been implemented in the Panyileukan District of Bandung and continues to demonstrate positive impacts. The site visit, which took place on December 27, in Cipadung Kidul, Panyileukan District, Bandung City, served as a significant moment to assess the success of this program. During his visit, Koswara observed the application of SIMONA in practice and expressed appreciation for the execution of the program. According to Dr. Runik Machfiroh, Head of the SDGs Center at Telkom University, the system operates using monitoring technology to support aquaponic cultivation. “SIMONA integrates digital technology to monitor water quality, plant growth, and fish conditions within the aquaponic system, thereby enhancing efficiency and yield,” explained Runik on December 29, 2024. He further noted that Telkom University provides technological support for the development of SIMONA, including monitoring devices that can be accessed in real-time. Meanwhile, Telkom Indonesia plays a role as a partner facilitating this program. “This collaboration aims to empower the residents of Panyileukan in establishing a sustainable aquaponic-based agricultural system,” he stated. During the occasion, the Acting Mayor also participated in harvesting crops such as pakcoy, eggplant, and various other vegetables, as well as observing the fish cultivation that is part of the aquaponic system. “I greatly appreciate the innovation of SIMONA, which not only supports food security but also empowers the community through technology. The collaboration between Telkom Indonesia, Telkom University, and the residents exemplifies an extraordinary synergy. I hope this becomes a model that can be replicated in other areas of Bandung,” remarked Ir. A. Koswara, MP.
