Telkomsel And Huawei Win GTI Awards 2025 Thanks To Hyper 5G Innovation

Tuesday, 18 Mar 2025

Telkomsel and Huawei won the "Innovative Mobile Service and Application Award" at the GTI Awards 2025 at MWC Barcelona, ??March 4, 2025. This award appreciates the success of both in presenting Hyper 5G innovation, especially 5G Standalone (5G SA), as a Smart Port solution at Benoa Port, Bali.

GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative) is a global industry alliance that drives the development of TD-LTE and 5G technology. Since its establishment in 2011, GTI has become a collaborative forum for operators, vendors, and academics to accelerate the evolution of telecommunications networks. The GTI Awards themselves are prestigious awards in the global telecommunications industry.

Hyper 5G technology implemented at Benoa Port provides ultra-fast connectivity and low latency, increases port operational efficiency, and supports the logistics and tourism sectors. In addition, this technology opens up new economic opportunities for local communities and business actors.

Telkomsel and Huawei integrate cloud computing, AI-based video surveillance, and TDD-FDD Dual Massive MIMO technologies to improve port efficiency, security, and productivity. They are also trialing 5G RedCap, which has the potential to reduce internet access costs for MSMEs and households.

The 5G Standalone (5G SA) framework – which is currently in the interim trial phase – also demonstrates the potential to deliver 5G RedCap technology, with the aim of reducing costs for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and households by providing previously unreachable high-speed internet access.

Although still in development and not yet commercially available, the 5G Cloud Phone service is expected to be integrated with 5G RedCap to reduce reliance on hardware and provide advanced communication features that will further improve accessibility and user experience.

Telkomsel's Planning & Transformation Director, Wong Soon Nam, said this award is proof of the success of digital transformation in Indonesia. "With the implementation of Hyper 5G, we ensure that ultra-fast connectivity and low latency can be optimized for various sectors, including logistics and tourism," he said.

Wong Soon added that Telkomsel is committed to expanding the Hyper 5G ecosystem to drive economic growth and realize Indonesia Emas 2045.

Huawei APAC CMO, Zhang Ziyan, added that this collaboration accelerates digitalization in various strategic sectors and creates real impacts for society and industry. "The evolution of 5G technology can accelerate digitalization in various strategic sectors, increase business competitiveness, and open up new economic opportunities in the era of intelligent connectivity," he said.
