Three Frequencies Auctioned In Second Semester, Accelerate Adoption Of New Technology

Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid confirmed that her party is preparing to auction three frequencies, namely in the 1.4 GHz, 2.6 GHz, and 700 MHz broadband bands in the second semester of 2025 after carrying out the spectrum rearrangement or refarming process. 

Meutya, met in Central Jakarta, Friday night, said that the frequency spectrum was auctioned in the near future so that it could be reused by telecommunications service providers and thus the acceleration of the adoption of new technologies that are developing can be done in Indonesia. 

"We feel that the release of this frequency makes it easier for us (the Indonesian people) to adopt various new connectivity technologies, new emerging technologies," she said. 

One of the innovations mentioned that can be developed from the frequency auction is Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology which can be applied at a frequency of 1.4 GHz. A technology that allows providers to provide high-speed internet connections using wireless signals. 

If developed properly, this technology makes it easier for people to get connectivity and internet networks at more affordable costs, especially at home if FWA is implemented because the cost of FWA is not as expensive as the deployment of fiber optic (FO) services. 

In addition to supporting the adoption of the latest technology that is developing today, it is hoped that this frequency spectrum auction can also support the growth of a healthier telecommunications industry. 

ore, the auction will not be carried out simultaneously, but according to the Minister of Communication and Digital, it will be carried out periodically in a close time. 

With the increasing number of players in the telecommunications service provider industry, it is hoped that the public can have more options for telecommunications service providers according to their needs and financial capacity. 

"The hope is also to open up more new players, so that competition (in the provision of telecommunications services) can run more lively and run better," said Meutya.
