The Indonesian government, represented by the Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid, aims to collaborate with the Chinese government in the digital technology sector. Meutya Hafid held a meeting with Nong Shengwen, the Secretary of the Nanning City Party in Guangxi Province, China, to discuss the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the establishment of a joint AI innovation center in the ASEAN region. She explained that this discussion marks a significant milestone in Indonesia's digital transformation. It also presents substantial opportunities for utilizing AI in agriculture and the development of smart cities. "Collaboration in digital infrastructure between Indonesia and China is the largest compared to partnerships with other countries. This has enhanced connectivity even in remote areas of Indonesia through 4G and 5G technology," Meutya Hafid stated, as reported in a press release from Komdigi on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Meutya Hafid expressed her interest in expanding AI collaboration with Nanning City, which serves as an inspiration due to its success as an AI-based smart city. "We can learn from Nanning's experience in building a smart city. Additionally, the significant potential of digital startups and talent in Nanning can inspire the development of Indonesia's digital ecosystem," she remarked. Meutya believes that the advancement of AI in Indonesia will also be directed towards supporting the agricultural sector, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto's vision of enhancing food security. "We are open to collaborating with various countries, including China, to develop AI technology. Our goal is to create 9 million highly skilled digital talents in AI by 2030," she added. Meanwhile, Nong Shengwen, the Secretary of the Nanning City Party, reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the relationship between the two countries through technological innovation.
