The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and Russia are enhancing their strategic collaboration in the fields of communication technology and digital innovation, further strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations over the past 75 years. Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria indicated that this cooperation encompasses the development of 5G mobile networks, broadband, digital ecosystems, e-commerce, postal services, and the latest digital technologies. “We are exploring various opportunities for collaboration that we can enhance, including telecommunications, digital ecosystems, e-commerce, postal services, and emerging technologies,” Nezar stated after meeting with Andrey Zarenin, the Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday. In this partnership, Nezar mentioned that Indonesia is keen to expand international connectivity, which includes bandwidth for international internet access and data transmission. He emphasized the need for affordable high-speed internet, similar to that in Russia, where users can access speeds of 100 Mbps for less than 4 US dollars (approximately 70,000 IDR). “If we collaborate, we can reduce internet costs, as we require internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps at very low prices like those in Russia. Therefore, I believe this is a very promising initiative, and hopefully, we can establish a collaboration to follow up on this initiative,” Nezar remarked. Previously, Indonesia and Russia have engaged in collaborative training for digital talent aimed at civil servants, extending to several universities in Indonesia through public lectures. Looking ahead, Nezar Patria also expressed a desire to broaden cooperation in the media industry for information dissemination between Russia and Indonesia, as well as in the development of digital skills.
