The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and Russia are enhancing their strategic cooperation in the fields of communication technology and digital innovation. This expansion of collaboration occurs within the context of the 75-year diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Russia. Nezar Patria, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, indicated that this partnership will encompass the development of 5G mobile networks, broadband, digital ecosystems, e-commerce, postal services, and the latest digital technologies. "We are exploring various opportunities for collaboration that we can enhance, including telecommunications, digital ecosystems, e-commerce, postal services, and emerging technologies," he stated during a courtesy visit from Andrey Zarenin, the Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation. Nezar Patria expressed Indonesia's interest in expanding international connectivity, which includes bandwidth for international internet access and data transmission. He emphasized the need for affordable high-speed internet, similar to that in Russia, where users can access speeds of 100 Mbps for less than USD 4. "If we collaborate, we can reduce internet costs, as we require internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps at very low prices, akin to those in Russia. Therefore, I believe this is a very promising initiative, and I hope we can establish a partnership to advance this initiative," he explained. Previously, Indonesia and Russia have engaged in collaborative training for digital talent for civil servants and have conducted public lectures at Indonesian universities. Looking ahead, Nezar Patria also expressed a desire to broaden cooperation in the media industry to facilitate information dissemination between Russia and Indonesia, as well as to develop digital skills. "We hope that this meeting will lead to an initiative to create a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Russia to reaffirm our commitment to digital development and media," he remarked.
